Great Etowah Adventure

Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site
April 18, 2009

If you’ve ever dreamed of living like a Native American, bring your family for a great adventure at Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site. The Etowah Great Adventure -- on Saturday, April 18, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. – is a perfect opportunity to witness demonstrations of native peoples’ skills. Basket weaving, weapons, flint knapping, and more will be demonstrated. Archeological dig setups also will be available to educate kids.

It’s a bargain, too. The cost is the same as entrance to the park any other day: $2.50 to $5.00.

When your “tribe” becomes hungry, the Friends of Etowah Indian Mounds will be offering BBQ, chicken or hamburger plates for $5.00 to help raise funds to assist with the care and programming of the mounds, which is the most intact Mississippian Culture site in the Southeast. The 54-acre park has plenty of areas where you can eat your lunch.

Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site, which was home to several thousand Native Americans between 1000 and 1550 A.D., is located at 813 Indian Mounds Rd., S.W., in Cartersville, GA 30120. This is five miles southwest of I-75 exit #288. Follow the brown directional signs. For more information, call 770-387-3747 or visit the Etowah Indian Mounds web site at www.gastateparks.org/info/etowah.
