Torch Light Tour of the Ancient City
Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site

October 3, 2009

Take a walk into the past along a torch lit path and illuminated mounds at Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site. Chances are, you’ll want to come back again. The Torch Light Tour of the Ancient City – scheduled this year on Saturday, October 3 – is one of Etowah’s most popular events.

Torch Light Tour

Tours begin at 7:00 p.m. and usually end around 9:00 p.m. The guided tour takes about one hour. Torches light the way, and The Friends of Etowah Indian Mounds provides snacks and drinks for visitors, so you won’t need to bring anything except a warm jacket and your walking shoes. Plan to climb the 134 steps to the top of the 67-foot-high temple mound of the Etowah chief (Mound A) during your ¾-mile tour.

Admission fees are the park’s standard $2.50 to $5.00. Note that there is no rain date.

Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site, which was home to several thousand Native Americans between 1000 and 1550 A.D., is located at 813 Indian Mounds Rd., S.W., in Cartersville, GA 30120. This is five miles southwest of I-75 exit #288. Follow the brown directional signs. For more information, call 770-387-3747 or visit the Etowah Indian Mounds web site at www.gastateparks.org/info/etowah.
